Mercurial Skipper (Proteides mercurius)

This skipper was observed and photographed in BRECs Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center in East Baton Rouge Parish feeding on button bush flowers, June 7, 2018.  This is a first State Record.  This species is sometimes found as a stray in the Texas LRGV.  There are records for central Texas and the Houston area as well as se Arizona and Florida, but never before in Louisiana.  You can see photographs of this skipper on the website BAMONA as sighting number 1177883.
